DXR - Ceiling diffuser for exposed installation

DXR – An updated, sustainable solution with practical adapatability

We are introducing the updated DXR, our freely suspended ceiling diffuser equipped with rotatable nozzles. It complements our existing range of nozzle diffusers, including the DRT(I), DRTX, and BRD series. During development, we focused on sustainable material use, performance, and installation-friendly details. The main advantage of diffusers with rotatable nozzles is that the airflow pattern can be adjusted at any time without affecting the overall system.

Rotatable nozzles

The 360° rotatable nozzles provide complete freedom in directing the airflow. Each nozzle can be individually adjusted, enabling the creation of an optimal air distribution pattern tailored to the exact requirements of the room.

High induction efficiency

High induction efficiency

In ventilation contexts, induction describes how a stream of supply air at higher velocity pulls surrounding air into its flow path. This effect enables greater mixing, allowing significant cooling or heating capacity to be supplied while avoiding draughts.

Airflow capacity and versatility

Airflow capacity and versatility

DXR delivers consistent ventilation efficiency and comfort across a broad range of airflows, making it adaptable to diverse room sizes and applications. Its design allows one diffuser type to serve both compact enclosed areas and large open spaces without any loss of comfort.

Wide range of air distribution patterns

Change the direction of the airflow in almost indefinite ways

Nozzle diffusers are equipped with multiple individually rotatable nozzles, enabling fine-tuned discharge patterns. This flexibility optimizes both occupant comfort and ventilation efficiency, allowing the system to be precisely adapted to different layouts and usage scenarios.

One-way diffusion

Ideal for installation near walls or corners, this setting directs airflow into occupied zones while preventing unwanted draughts. It is commonly chosen for smaller rooms or indoor areas where airflow must remain contained within a defined space.

Two-way diffusion

Suitable for rooms with occupants arranged in rows, reducing direct draughts on individuals. This pattern is often applied in large offices where uniform airflow is needed along parallel corridors or desk rows.

Three-way diffusion

Well-suited for rooms where occupants are arranged in rows, helping mitigate direct airflow on individuals. It can also be beneficial in large offices where uniform airflow along parallel corridors or desk rows is desired.

Swirl flow pattern

Common in large spaces such as retail areas or fitness centers, providing broad, uniform mixing. The swirling airflow ensures even distribution of conditioned air, particularly valuable in high-ceiling or irregularly shaped rooms.

Horizontal “sunflower” pattern

Air is discharged horizontally before gradually descending into the occupied zone. This pattern is particularly suitable for conference halls and classrooms, where controlled airflow ensures comfort without draughts.

Vertical throw

The supply airflow is discharged vertically downward from the diffuser face, allowing supply air to travel directly to the designated area.

Practical flexibility

The uniqueness of the DXR lies in its balance of functionality and flexibility. Its design follows a clear form-follows-function principle, delivering fresh air without draughts, straightforward adaptability, and a clean exposed appearance. Built from environmentally responsible materials such as galvanized steel and 100% recyclable airfelt insulation, the DXR combines performance with sustainability. The damper blade is fitted with specially shaped nozzles that lower sound levels, while an integrated measurement probe ensures consistent k-factors for simplified commissioning and reliable operation. These qualities make the DXR a strong choice for offices, educational institutions, commercial spaces, and other environments with changing requirements.

  1. 01 Casing, deflector plate, damper blade, and connection spigot – manufactured from Z275 galvanized steel; casing powder-coated in RAL 9003.
  2. 02 Insulation – cleanable surface-coated material made from 100% recycled, non-allergenic, hydrophobic PET.
  3. 03 Air duct connection – equipped with an EPDM rubber seal.
  4. 04 Damper module – constructed of galvanized steel with polyester cords.

Application

The ability to freely adjust its nozzles makes the DXR particularly effective in spaces with high comfort requirements. Its draught-reducing design makes it well suited for offices, educational institutions, hospitality settings, and both small and large commercial spaces. The adaptability of nozzle diffusers also supports long-term sustainability, as they can be reconfigured or repurposed to accommodate changes in room layout and usage. Beyond technical performance, nozzle diffusers are often chosen for their clean design, allowing seamless integration into modern interiors. Products such as the DRT(I), DXR, DCR, and BRD illustrate how nozzle diffusers create efficient, comfortable, and adaptable indoor environments.

Commercial spaces Commercial spaces – In stores and showrooms, where customer flow and heat loads vary, the DXR adapts effectively when combined with VAV control. Units are available in virtually any RAL color with matching nozzles, or without powder coating, as the complete construction is galvanized steel.

Open office environments Open office environments – Flexibility is especially beneficial in modern, agile offices where workstations and zones are frequently reconfigured. DXR diffusers can be quickly adjusted to new layouts, minimising renovation costs and downtime.

Educational institutions Educational institutions – Classroom sizes, layouts, and student numbers often vary, and the DXR can be easily adapted to meet changing airflow requirements, making it an optimal choice for DCV or VAV applications.

Fitness centers Fitness centers – In large areas, the DXR’s swirl-type flow pattern ensures comfortable, draught-free, and uniform air distribution, even at high airflow rates. Its strong induction effect increases mixing of room and supply air, reducing ΔT, which is particularly important in environments with high activity levels.

EPD certified

The DXR – along with our entire ceiling air diffuser product line – is certified with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This certification provides architects, designers, and property owners with reliable data to make informed, environmentally responsible choices. It reflects our commitment to sustainability while continuing to deliver the high-quality products our customers trust.

An EPD is an independently verified document that reports a product’s environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, including energy use, emissions, and resource consumption.

Based on Life Cycle Assessment, a standardized methodology that evaluates all stages from production to end-of-life disposal, EPDs offer transparent, comparable information across industries. Certification is carried out by independent third-party organizations according to international standards (ISO 14025), ensuring credibility and consistency.

Airvent’s EPD program operator is EPD Norway
